The importance of personal work

Photography can be a lonely pursuit, if you let it. The majority of time is spent planning and editing alone with usually only the shooting side of things, involving working in the presence of others. A way to avoid getting uninspired between commissions is nurture a community around you to create new work.

My favourite type of photography will always involve a human subject, on location with authenticity and an editorial feel so whenever I get chance, that is what I’m looking to collaborate on.

I first noticed Danielle’s work in the BBC comedy Boat Story where she played the new wife to the ex-husband of lead protagonist Janet. We were later introduced through her agent at RMG and have shot a few times since. Being a photographer based in Worcestershire I’m always looking for people in the midlands to work with whenever possible.

Personal work and test shoots are the place for me to experiment and explore new locations with new people, allowing my style and approach to mature whilst growing a creative community that can be called upon for commercial projects. They are also a place to have some fun.
